THE FIRST ENCOUNTER
In the end of 2021 is being my first encounter with NFT Art. For several months I figure out how the mechanism in the metaverse, in order to produce, publishing, and collecting the NFT works. I was introduced with NFT by my brother (see his portfolio here) who has earlier diving into this new world of creative ecosystem. This NFT stands for Non Fungible Token, a digital asset encrypted in blockchain technology that we can trace the ownership from its origin. In NFT Art, this blockchain technology can record whoever has collected the artwork or even resold it to another collector, complete with the value of the work. This kind of utilities are written in a smart contract provided by a blockchain developer, for example the most popular are Ethereum, Tezos, and Solana.
The NFT Art ecosystem enable artist or creator can democratically set their economical value of their artwork, there are no third parties e.g., art galleries, who dominantly control the market and set the value of the artwork. Every kind or form of the artwork, as long as we can access it digitally are possible to be an asset which can collected by other. Shortly, the artist or creator can directly sell their work to the collectors.
Later then, I create a digital work based on my visual character that I usually presented on printmaking work. This first NFT artwork is a digital version of Act of Terror from Bhayangkara series that I was made by reduction woodcut print technique on paper. On this work I try some possibilities that can be reached by the advanced of digital technologies. Varieties of color, light effect, and motion are several aspects I added while creating this work to make a diverse character with the conventional print work.
